Global demand for electricity continues to grow and numerous new nuclear power plants (NPPs) are being planned or constructed in NEA member countries. Most of these new NPPs will be of the third generation, and will be designed for as long as 80 years of operation. The successful design, construction and operation of these plants will depend broadly on appropriately implementing the lessons from experience accumulated to date.

The European project COWAM in Practice (CIP) was aimed to lead for three years (2007-2009) a process of monitoring, analyzing and evaluating the governance linked with radioactive waste management. This project, in cooperation with a research group and stakeholders, was conducted in parallel in 5 European countries.

Le projet européen COWAM in Practice (CIP) a eu pour objectif de mener pendant trois ans (2007-2009) un processus de suivi, d’analyse et d’évaluation sur la gouvernance de la gestion des déchets radioactifs. Ce projet, réalisé en coopération avec un groupe de recherche et des parties prenantes, a été conduit en parallèle dans 5 pays européens.
