LOCHARD J.

Oral Presentation at the Master and Doctorate Program ‘Nuclear Science and Technology’, Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Madrid, Spain, 4 February 2015

Abstract

After a brief historical perspective about the evolution of the ICRP system of radiological protection for humans the presentation gives an overview of its aims, scientific basis and key components: the exposure situations, the categories of exposure, the principles of protection, the dose criteria and the essential requisites. This overview is an opportunity to highlight the ethical values underpinning the system: prudence, beneficence/non maleficence, justice and dignity as well as the core concepts of reasonableness and tolerability.
